GREMLINS UNLOCKED! And Trolls on the horizon...
over 2 years ago – Wed, Sep 15, 2021 at 12:57:41 AM

Ho there, ArcFans!

THE GREMLINS ARE UNLOCKED!

These can now be added to your pledge

Due to your wonderful efforts, the Gremlins are now unlocked and able to add to your pledge!

But Alex, how do we add models to our pledges?

If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

So, what's next?

If we hit £4500, I'll sculpt TWO more Forest Troll models to add to the existing one for ArcWorlde: Second Edition. Playing as Monsters is a big part of the game, and with these two new additions to add to your horde, you'll be able to truly tear things up on the battlefield.

Less than 4 hours to go!

Cheers!

TROLLS UNLOCKED!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Sep 15, 2021 at 12:57:38 AM

Ho there, ArcFans!

TROLLS UNLOCKED!

Now you can grab two mighty Trolls for your ArcWorlde collection!

So, what's next?

If we hit £5k, I'll sculpt a grumpy Wizard professor for your painting table!

Half an hour to go folks, let's do this!

Cheers,

- Alex

How to Make a Comic
over 2 years ago – Sat, Sep 11, 2021 at 03:00:30 AM

Hey everyone,

Mike (the writer) again! We thought it would be cool to show how a comic page comes together.

My scripts look a bit like this – I use Final Draft to create a script, which clearly details all the various elements that Russ (our wonderful line artist) will need to bring to life on the page. I try to write as little as possible (aiming to be evocative over descriptive) but sometimes (especially with early pages) you need to make sure everything is established. I go back to tighten the dialogue, check that it flows with the artwork, and check for typos before the book goes to the letterer.

Russ will then do some roughs, which we’ll discuss before tying down all the various elements. For example, we decided that more room was needed in panel 1 as there was so much dialogue to fit in there!

The next three steps are inking, colouring and lettering. There was a little back and forth as we got things exactly how we liked (which our colourist Lou Ashworth did an amazing job!) and the lettering was done after the script was checked. Mike Stock did a fantastic job of fitting the amount of text we had in while leading the reader’s eye around the story.

And when that’s all done we’re left with a finished comic page!

I hope you've enjoyed taking a little look into our process, and both Alex and I hope you all enjoy the story as much as we have enjoyed working on it.

Many thanks!

An interview with the Writer - Mike Garley!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Sep 08, 2021 at 12:44:16 PM

Hi everyone!

My name is Mike Garley and I wrote the comic for ArcWorlde. A few people have been asking to know a bit more about the main characters, so I suggested that I write this ‘guest post’ to give you a few more details.

We knew we wanted a small group - so that everyone would get their shot in the limelight – and to try and show off some of the many weird and wonderful inhabitants of ArcWorlde. We discussed a few different combinations for our band of Swords for Hire. I knew I wanted a couple of Haflings (because Haflings), and a mix of other characters. In addition to our Wild Elf, and our Njorsvald warrior we toyed with the idea of having a Beastfolk and an Ourk in the party. I was keen to show off Ourks but decided that having the Gremlins causing mayhem would scratch that itch – and it was easier to establish a Wild Elf that helped ensure that the focus wasn’t taken from the narrative.

After some back and fourth with Alex we decided upon our final four (plus the Explorer). I’d love to tell you why exactly we settled on them but unfortunately that would include a spoiler…

Below are the first character profiles that I created for them -

Hollodt -  The leader of the band. A brave warrior from Njorsvald who left her homelands - with her faithful Mjowl - after a raid decimated her village. She vowed to travel beyond the border to find the horrors before the horrors find them. She’s extremely logical, brave, and empathetic. She has an ‘ornate’ spear imbued with Arcanite.

Wild Elven Warrior -  Mostly known as 'The Elf' to those who deal with her, as she refuses to speak anything else other than Elvish. Why should sully her name with the filthy language of humans and Halflings ? Not much is known about this mighty warrior, but nearly everyone seems wary of her. Some find it strange that Hollodt trusts The Elf, but the fact that her pet Mjowl likes her (and Hollodt's belief that there are greater threats to be discovered) means that the two warriors share an unlikely bond. She is followed everywhere by a duo of Lichenhawks that are used to scout ahead.

Mitch and Russ - Two Halfing warriors who - due to their love of food - have tasked themselves to find the finest ingredients from the deepest and deadliest parts of ArcWorlde. Mitch has lost an arm, which he has had replaced with a giant, whisk-like, wind-up fork. Russ is always tinkering with ingredients and experimenting with new food combinations. They don’t fully trust the The Elf, but would trust Hollodt with their lives.

We also got to play with a LOT of monsters in our story – but you’ll see more of them later!

Cheers!

1 Week to go!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Sep 08, 2021 at 12:12:33 AM

Ho there, ArcFans!

Hope you are all well. We are (now just over) a week into the campaign, and to celebrate I tried out something that I've been asked to do for quite a while now - a painting tutorial!

Here's how I painted up the first of the Gremlin sculpts:

Super simple, right? Are you going to paint your minis when they arrive?

Stay tuned for more updates! And if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Cheers,

- Alex
